Itinerary

Day 1, Tuesday: We depart on our flight to Sarajevo.

Day 2, Wednesday: Arrive Sarajevo. Assistance at airport and transfer to hotel. Balance of the day is at leisure. Welcome dinner and overnight in Sarajevo.

Day 3, Thursday: Breakfast. Tour Sarajevo, the capital city of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which has been influenced by a number of cultures and civilizations. Visit the picturesque Turkish bazaar "Bas Carsija", the Husref Bay's Mosque, Olympic Stadium and Sarajevo War Tunnel Museum. Afternoon Jewish interest tour features the Jewish Museum located in the Old Synagogue, Eskenazy Synagogue and the Jewish cemetery. Overnight Sarajevo.

Day 4, Friday: After breakfast we drive through the marvelous gorge of River Neretva to Mostar, where we will see the remains of the Turkish quarter and the recently reconstructed 16th century single arch stone bridge. Shabbat dinner and overnight in Dubrovnik.

Day 5, Saturday: Morning at leisure. Afternoon walking tour of "Old Dubrovnik". Visit the Rector's Palace, Bell Tower Clock, Orlando's Column and the Sponza Palace. We will visit the Dominican Monastery and Fanciscan Monastery with it's Pharmacy, one of the oldest in the world. Overnight in Dubrovnik.

Day 6 Sunday: This morning we tour all Jewish sites in the Old Town: "Ulica Zudioska" (Jewish Street), just where it was when it was Via del Ghetto. The Jewish Synagogue occupies the upper floor of a building on the street, distinguished from its neighbors by a polished wood door and brass knobs and the odd combination of window shapes. This afternoon, we depart Dubrovnik and travel north along the spectacular Adriatic coast, past old fishing villages and new resorts to Split. Dinner and overnight in Split.

Day 7, Monday: We enjoy a tour of the historic inner city, built around Roman Emperor Diocletian's Palace, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site. We will see remnants of Split's Roman heritage, its Renaissance and Gothic structures, Jupiter's Temple, the Peristyle and the Cathedral. We also see the area in the northwestern portion that was the site of the former ghetto. Its main street is still called Ulia "Usred Geta", or Street in the Middle of the Ghetto. A blind alley called Zidovski Prolaz, or Jewish Passage, leads to the soaring synagogue. With origins in the sixteen centery, the synagogue still functions. Overnight in Split.

Day 8, Tuesday: After breakfast, we head north along the modern highway to Ljubljana. Dinner and overnight in Ljubljana.

Day 9, Wednesday: Our morning sightseeing tour of Ljubljana begins with a visit to the open-air market, the City Hall, Robba's Fountain, the Three Bridges and the Parliament. We then continue to Zagreb, the capital city of Croatia. Overnight Zagreb.

Day 10, Thursday: We tour the historic Upper Town today. We see the St. Mark's Church, the St. Catherine's Church, the Cathedral, the Parliament and the Government Palace. We proceed with the Jewish sights tour. We visit the Old Synagogue and the three-story community building which hosts fairly regular concerts and has an art gallery that exhibits works by Jewish artists or on Jewish related themes. Farewell dinner. Overnight Zagreb.

Day 11, Thursday: After breakfast, we drive to the airport for our flight back home.
