Itinerary Day 1, Sunday, February 19, 2012: DEPARTURE Depart the
United States on our overnight flight to South America. Day 2,
Monday, February 20, 2012: ARRIVAL IN SAO PAULO Early morning
arrival to Sao Paulo…We continue through customs and immigration before we
connect to our flight to the Iguassu Falls…Meet our guide and begin our tour of
the Brazilian side of the falls…We cross the border to Argentina for our welcome
dinner…Overnight Iguassu Falls. Day 3, Tuesday, February 21,
2012: IGUASSU FALLS/BUENOS AIRES Breakfast…Morning visit to the
Argentinean side of the falls declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO…From the
visitor's center we take a train ride to the Cataratas station and have time to
walk on the paths and lookouts…We continue by train to the Garganta station, for
a flat walk over the water the river to the Devil's Throat balcony, to share one
of the greatest shows on Earth…Buffet lunch is served at the Sheraton Hotel,
offering spectacular views you the falls…Later we transfer to the airport for
your flight to Buenos Aires, built in the 19th century, this city rivals the
architecture and sophistication of Paris…Transfer to our hotel…Overnight Buenos
Aires.Day 4, Wednesday, February 22, 2012: BUENOS
AIRES Breakfast…Today we enjoy a half-day tour of the city,
birthplace of the Tango…We see Avenida de Mayo - running into Plaza de Mayo
surrounded by the Casa Rosada Government House, the Metropolitan Cathedral and
the Cabildo, the city's first city Hall, built during Spanish rule…Visit La
Boca, Buenos Aires' most colorful area…Stroll through Caminito Street to meet
artists offering their Tango Paintings…We visit the recently renovated Teatro
Colon Opera House, its design inspired by the exquisite Opera Garnier in
Paris…This afternoon, we transfer to one of the famous Tango Clubs for a one
hour Tango lesson followed by dinner and a professional Tango Show…Overnight
Buenos Aires. Day 5, Thursday, February 23, 2012: BUENOS
AIRES Breakfast…Today we visit the Jewish Highlights of Buenos
Aires…Visit Once, home of the highest concentration of Jewish institutions in
Buenos Aires… Drive through the “Mea Shearim” of Bam, where many orthodox live,
and pause at the site of the bombing of AMIA in 1994 - and its memorial to the
89 victims…Visit Argentina's oldest synagogue, Congregacion Israelita de la
Republica Argentina, known as The “Libertad”, which houses a small Jewish museum
of photographs and ritual objects…Afternoon at leisure…Overnight Buenos Aires.
Day 6, Friday, February 24, 2012: BUENOS AIRES - FIESTA
GAUCHA Breakfast…Travel to the Argentine countryside to taste some
great steaks and see the famous Argentine Gauchos…Upon arrival at the Estancia
we will be welcomed with typical empanadas...We stroll around on the farm, take
a horse and carriage ride, visit the museum, or watch the Gauchos preparing our
barbecue…At noon, we sit down together for a barbecue lunch...Afterwards, we
hear gauchos play typical music and show how they used to dance in the
pampas…Afterwards we will be transferred back to our hotel in Buenos Aires.
Evening Shabbat dinner together at the Bistecca Puerto Madero restaurant (with
glass of wine)…Overnight Buenos Aires. Day 7, Saturday, February
25, 2012: BUENOS AIRES/COLONIA DEL SACRAMENTO Breakfast…Depart
Buenos Aires by Hydrofoil to cross into Uruguay, where we visit the UNESCO
Heritage site of Colonia del Sacramento…We view the well-preserved historic
architecture and learn the history of resistance between the Portuguese settlers
and the Spanish…Return to Buenos Aires…Overnight Buenos Aires.
Day 8, Sunday, February 26, 2012: BUENOS AIRES/RIO DE
JANEIRO Very early morning transfer to airport for our flight to
Rio… Morning tour of Rio's most famous beaches - Copacabana, Ipanema and Leblon,
followed by a visit to Sugar Loaf Mountain, dramatically rising from the
Bay...See the spectacular views of the city, beaches and bay as the cable car
ride takes us to its summit…Free time for lunch before ascending famous
Corcovado Mountain, a cogwheel train ride through lush vegetation takes us to
the base of the landmark statue of “Cristo Redentor;” elected as one of the
New Seven Wonders of the World!...Check in to our hotel for a free
evening…Overnight Rio de Janeiro.Day 9, Monday, February 27,
2012: RIO DE JANEIRO Breakfast…Morning tour of the Secrets of Old
Rio…We visit some of the Jewish sites of Rio including a public school named
after Anne Frank, a square called Ben Gurion, and a street named Theodore
Herzl…We visit the Grand Synagogue, magnificently restored by famous publisher
Adolpho Block…Continue to the hub of the Jewish community, the Jewish
Federation, which coordinates all aspects of Jewish life, including synagogues,
schools and clubs…We enjoy a typical Brazilian lunch at the 19th century's
Confitaria Columbus in the Old City…Afternoon at leisure to enjoy the ocean
front promenades of Copacabana or shopping in Ipanema… A special complimentary
visit to the H. Stern World's Headquarters may be arranged upon
request..Overnight Rio de Janeiro.Day 10, Tuesday, February 28,
2012: FREE DAY/DEPART RIO DE JANEIRO Breakfast… Day at leisure in
Rio for optional tours… Tonight we gather for a farewell dinner at Mariu's, the
famous Brazilian BBQ restaurant… Late tonight we transfer to the airport to meet
our flight back to the United States.Day 11, Wednesday, February
29, 2012: ARRIVE HOME Arrive home in the United States.
