Itinerary | Day 1, Sunday, June 10, 2012: BEGIN OUR JOURNEY Depart
the United States on our overnight flight to Israel.
Day 2,
Monday, June 11, 2012: WELCOME TO ISRAEL! Arrival in Israel where we
are met and assisted through customs by our Ayelet Representative…Meet expert
guide Shimon Zemer, and begin our tour …Visit Neve Michael, a residential home
for Israeli children at risk. We meet some of the amazing children and hear from
the center leaders about the work done there… Next we visit Moshav Natan,
located along the green line, and the security barrier...We meet the head of
security for the Moshav and discuss the implications of the fence and their
community's location in relation to nearby Arab villiages...Continue to our
hotel to check in…Overnight Tel Aviv.
Day 3, Tuesday, June 12,
2012: SEEDS OF A NEW STATE Breakfast…Begin our day in Old Jaffa,
where we walk among the many artist vendors and cafes as we hear the history of
this ancient port…Visit to the Palmach Museum where we “join up” with the
paramilitary forces from Israel's pre-Statehood days OR visit the nearby Rabin
Center, dedicated to commemorating the life and work of Yitzhak Rabin…This
afternoon we learn about the history of the Haganah Movement and see the
exhibitions at the Haganah Museum… Enjoy the entertainers, artists, and
craftspeople who bring the streets to life at Nachalat Binyamin and in the
Carmel Market…Stroll through the Neve Tzedek neighborhood before enjoying dinner
at Maganda Restaurant…Overnight Tel Aviv.
Day 4, Wednesday, June
13, 2012: ADVENTURES ON THE COASTAL ROUTE Breakfast…Drive up the
coastal road to Continue to Caesarea, where we view the amazing Roman ruins,
including the Roman Theater and the aqueduct……Lunch and home hospitality in the
Druze village of Daliyat el-Carmel…Stop at the overlook in Haifa, where we take
in the panoramic views of the port city, and admire the beautiful Bahai Temple
and Persian Gardens…Continue to the crusader era city of Akko and see the
British Prison…Check into our kibbutz...Dinner and overnight at our kibbutz in
the Galilee.
Day 5, Thursday, June 14, 2012:BAR/BAT MITZVAH
& NORTHERN EXPLORATIONS Breakfast…Shacharit Bar/Bat Mitzvah
Service in the ancient synagogue of Bar Am along the Lebanese border...Visit the
Orchard at Kibbutz Malkia…Look out at neighboring Lebanon atop Mt. Dado at
Metula…Visit and wine tasting at the world class Golan Winery...Later today we
enjoy a kayaking adventure down the Jordan River…We also visit an IDF Base
(pending confirmation) before dinner at our kibbutz…Overnight at our kibbutz in
the Galilee.
Day 5, Friday, June 15, 2012: FROM THE GOLAN TO THE
CITY OF GOLD Breakfast…Visit the Golan Heights, where we pass former
Syrian bunkers and stop atop Har Bental for panoramic views stretching far into
neighboring Syria…Stop at K'far Kedem to see how life was lived in Mishnaic
times, including the chance to ride a donkey and make pita bread…Continue to
Jerusalem where we join together for a special “Shehekianu” blessing as we
overlook the City of Gold…Time permitting we walk through Machane Yehuda, where
we take in the sites and sounds of the marketplace as Jerusalemites prepare for
the approaching Shabbat…Continue to our hotel to check in and refresh before
welcoming Shabbat at the Western Wall with the people of Jerusalem…Tonight we
enjoy Shabbat dinner together at our hotel…Overnight Jerusalem.
Day 6, Saturday. June 16, 2012: SHABBAT
SHALOM! Breakfast…Shabbat services this morning at HUC…Enjoy lunch
on own before a walking tour with our guide…Free time to relax…This evening we
enjoy dinner on own along Ben Yehuda Street or along the new Mamilla
Mall…Overnight Jerusalem.
Day 7, Sunday, June 17, 2012:
JERUSALEM'S OLD CITY Breakfast…Today we enjoy a walking tour through
the Old City… We walk through the Jewish Quarter, including the Roman Cardo
marketplace… Visit the Davidson Center and Robinson's Arch…Explore the Western
Wall Tunnels…Wind through the Arab Market (“shuk”) to the Christian Quarter,
ending at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre…This evening we enjoy dinner at Beit
Ticho…Overnight Jerusalem.
Day 8, Monday, June 18, 2012: THE
DEAD SEA BASIN Breakfast…Travel south through the Dead Sea Basin,
stopping at Ein Gedi where we hike to the hidden waterfalls…We next take the
cable care up to Masada, where we hear the story of the Jewish Zeolots last
stand against the Romans in 73 CE…Continue to the Dead Sea where we float in the
healing waters and enjoy lunch at a resort hotel…This afternoon we enjoy a camel
ride and dinner at Eretz Bereshit…Overnight Jerusalem.

Tuesday, June 19, 2012: DIGGING ISRAEL Breakfast…Today we fulfill
the mitzvah of gleaning the fields by participating in fruit collection for the
needy with Project Leket…Continue to the Beit Guvrin region to take part in a
hands on archeological dig and spelunking at the Bar Kochva Caves… Explore the
Stalactite Caves in Sorek…Continue back to Jerusalem…Overnight
Jerusalem.
Day 10, Wednesday, June 20, 2012: EXPLORING OUR
PAST Breakfast…Morning visit to Yad Vashem, Israel's memorial to the
Holocaust, where we view the many moving exhibitions including the Hall of Names
and the Avenue of the Righteous Among the Nations…Continue to Gilo to meet with
members of its Citizen Guard, volunteers to keep the neighborhood safe or
possible visit to the home of Rabbi Jeffrey Bearman, a Gilo resident to hear his
story…Continue to Mt. Herzl, Jerusalem's military cemetery, where we visit the
gravesites of Theodore Herzl, Golda Meir, and Yitzhak Rabin…We visit the Mt.
Herzl Museum, where we learn about the life and work of the great Zionist
visionary…Visit to the Supreme Court before enjoying the remainder of the day at
leisure...Overnight Jerusalem.
Day 11, Thursday, June 21, 2012:
CONNECTING TO THE LAND Breakfast…Morning visit to the Mt. of Olives,
overlooking the Old City…Explore the foundations of the city at Ir David, the
original City of David…Next we enjoy a tree planting in a JNF forest, connecting
us physically to the land of Israel…The remainder of the day is at leisure for
relaxation, shopping or exploration on own…Overnight Jerusalem.
Day 12, Friday, June 22, 2012: MODERN
FOUNDATIONS Breakfast…Depart Jerusalem and travel to Tel Aviv… We
visit Latrun, Israel's outdoor armored corps museum, where we explore the tanks
and artillery used by the Israeli Defense Force throughout the country's
history…Visit the Ayalon Institute, where we discover the underground ammunition
factory that played a pivotal role in Israel's fight for Independence…Check into
our hotel with time to freshen up for Shabbat services on the beach…Tonight we
enjoy Shabbat dinner at Mishkenot Ruth Daniel…Overnight Tel Aviv.
Day 13, Saturday, June 23, 2012: SHABBAT
SHALOM! Breakfast…Day at leisure to relax on the beach or enjoy last
minute shopping - we suggest checking out the newly revived “Hatachana” area,
with its boutique shops and dining options…This evening we enjoy Havdallah on
the beach before we walk together to the nearby Port of Tel Aviv. Here we join
together for our farewell dinner at a local restaurant…Overnight Tel
Aviv.
Day 14, Sunday, June 24, 2012: RETURN
HOME Breakfast…Transfer to the airport to meet our flight back to
the United States, arriving home the same day.
