Itinerary | DAY 1- SATURDAY, APRIL 21, 2012: DEPARTURE We depart
on our overnight flight to Israel
DAY 2- SUNDAY, APRIL 22, 2012:
WELCOME TO ISRAEL Afternoon arrival of main group from United
States… Meeting and assistance at Ben Gurion Airport… Transfer to Jerusalem…
"Sh'hekhiyanu!" ceremony atop the Haas Promenade overlooking the Old City…
Welcome dinner together this evening… Overnight Jerusalem.
DAY 3-
MONDAY, APRIL 23, 2012: POLITICS AND MODERN ISSUES IN
ISRAEL Breakfast…Morning Tree Planting in a nearby JNF forest,
physically linking us to the land of Israel… Afternoon tour of the Israeli
Supreme Court building… We also stop by the bronze menorah outside the Knesset
and have a visit to the Mt. Herzl Cemetery, home to the graves of Yitzhak Rabin,
Golda Meir, and many of Israel's military and political leaders and heroes. We
also visit the Herzl museum, tracing the life of Theodore Herzl, and the birth
of Zionism… Overnight Jerusalem.
DAY 4- TUESDAY, APRIL 24, 2012:
THE DEAD SEA AREA Breakfast….Early morning departure south. Ascend
Masada via snake path or cable car, where we spend the morning exploring Herod's
fortress, site of the Jewish Zealots last stand…After descending from the desert
plateau, we enjoy a short walk to the beautiful Ein Gedi waterfalls, a true
desert oasis… Enjoy lunch at a nearby Dead Sea spa and enjoy free time along the
shores or enjoy a “float” in salty waters, here at the lowest point on
earth…Pass the Qumran Caves, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found…Camel ride
and Biblical Desert Tent experience at Eretz
Bereshit…Jerusalem.
DAY 5- WEDNESDAY, APRIL 25, 2012: YOM
HAZIKARON IN ISRAEL Breakfast… Morning program with Anat Hoffman of
the Israel Religious Action Center, focusing on political Israel and current
events… We will stand for the memorial siren as we watch the city of Jerusalem
come to a standstill. Connect with your ancestral roots as we touch the ancient
stones in the Old City of Jerusalem. Visit the Davidson Center at the Southern
Wall Excavations and the Western Wall Tunnels. Enjoy shopping at the historic
shopping promenade along the Cardo, the heart of the Old City. As the sun sets,
the day of mourning ends and the celebration begins. Share in the pomp and
circumstance of the opening ceremony of Yom Ha'atzmaut (Independence Day),
celebrating Israel's 64 years of Independence. The entire downtown becomes an
outdoor party, filled with dancing and singing. Overnight Jerusalem
DAY 6- THURSDAY, APRIL 26, 2012: YOM HA'ATZMAUT
Breakfast…Continue our celebration of Yom Ha'atzmaut with a visit
to the historical military site of Ammunition Hill. Here we see the new
multi-media presentation brining the events of 1967 come to life. It provides an
illuminating look at the military maneuvers taken to bring about the
reunification of Jerusalem. Celebrate the day as the Israeli population does,
with a sumptuous Israeli style barbecue accompanied by Israeli music from the
past 64 years…This afternoon, we visit an Israeli Army base for a full tour of
the facility - visiting a base is traditional in Israel on Yom
Haatzmaut…Overnight in Jerusalem.
DAY 7- FRIDAY, APRIL 27, 2012:
HISTORY AND ARCHEOLOGY AT A CROSSROADS Breakfast…This morning we
travel to Beit Guvrin to participate in a hands-on archeological dig…Return to
Jerusalem…Free time along the new Mamila promenade…Remainder of the afternoon is
at leisure…Welcome Shabbat in Mivaseret with Kehilat Mivaseret Tzion and Rabbi
Maya Leibovich, followed by home hospitality dinner hosted by members of the
congregation…Overnight in Jerusalem
DAY 8- SATURDAY, APRIL 28,
2012: SHABBAT SHALOM! Breakfast… Morning free or services at HUC or
one of the many other local synagogues… Day at leisure to visit the newly
remodeled Israel Museum (on own)…late afternoon, we enjoy the “Walking the
Psalms” tour led by Rabbi David Wilfond around the Old City walls, ending with
Hadvallah outside the Old City Walls (on own to return to hotel)… This evening
we are free for dinner on own. After dinner, join together to enjoy the Sound
and Light show at the Tower of David…Overnight Jerusalem
DAY 9-
SUNDAY, APRIL 29, 2012: REMEMBERANCE//THE MYSTICAL NORTH Breakfast…
Morning visit to the new museum at Yad Vashem… Travel north through the Jordan
Valley to Beit Shean, where we explore the vast and impressive excavations of
this Roman city…Continue to Beit Alpha to view the floor mosaics…time permitting
we stop at Kibbutz Degania to explore the history of the pioneers at Israel's
first Kibbutz… Dinner and overnight at our kibbutz in the
Galilee.
DAY 10- MONDAY, APRIL 30, 2012: BRIDGING THE JEWISH-ARAB
DIVIDE IN THE GALILEE Breakfast… Morning visit coordinated through
Makom Bagalil where we meet with Rabbi Marc Rosenstein to hear about Galilee
life and the community of Shorashim…Marc then takes us on an encounter with
Israeli Arabs in a local Arab village including an introductory
lecture/discussion, structured meeting with local Arabs, and a wrap up
discussion… the mystical town of Safed, where we see the ancient synagogues and
Artist Colony…Dinner this evening at Dag Al Ha Dan restaurant … Overnight at our
kibbutz in the Galilee.
DAY 11- TUESDAY, MAY 1, 2012: THE COASTAL
ROUTE Breakfast… Begin our day at Rosh Hanikrah, where we explore
the amazing grottoes at Israel's northernmost coastal border…Take in the
beautiful views of the Mediterranean and the Bahai Temple and Persian Gardens
from atop Mt. Carmel… Continue to Yemin Orde, a village working with youth at
risk and new olim for an inspiring encounter…Arrive in Tel Aviv, Israel's
seaside metropolis. Visit Old Jaffa, one of the World's oldest port cities
before hotel check-in and a free evening…Overnight Tel Aviv
DAY
12- WEDNESDAY, MAY 2, 2012: MODERN TEL AVIV/DEPARTURE After
breakfast, we stop for a moment of reflection at Rabin Square… Continue on to
Independence Hall where we hear audio of David Ben Gurion announcing Israel's
independence… We next "join up" with the Palmach fighting force at the Palmach
Museum… At the Ayalon Institute, we discover the underground ammunition factory
that was of vital importance during Israel's fight for independence… Free time
for last minute shopping before our farewell dinner at a local
restaurant…Transfer to Ben Gurion airport for our late night flight back to the
United States
DAY 13- THURSDAY, MAY 3, 2012: ARRIVAL
HOME Land back in the United States.

OVERNIGHT TEL AVIV Bid farewell to the main group…Overnight Tel

Eilat…Transfer to our hotel and enjoy the day in Eilat, where we spend time at
leisure on the beaches…Among other on own options, you may choose to visit the
Underwater Aquarium or take a snorkeling or barbeque cruise on the Red
Sea!..Overnight Eilat.
DAY 14- FRIDAY, MAY 4, 2012:
PETRA Breakfast…Day tour to Petra, the Red Rose City and Eighth
Wonder of the World, where we explore the Nabatean City (as seen in Indiana
Jones and the Last Crusade) and walk through the Ciq and ancient temples,
discovering the amazing Treasury and Roman Theater…View Wadi Rum as we make our
way back across the border into Israel…Overnight Eilat.
DAY 15-
SATURDAY, MAY 5, 2012: SHABBAT IN EILAT Breakfast…Shabbat
Shalom!...Enjoy the day at leisure in Eilat…Late this afternoon we transfer to
the airport to meet our flight back to Tel Aviv and the United States.
DAY 16- SUNDAY, MAY 6, 2012: ARRIVE HOME We arrive
home in the United States.
